Adding Hudl video to COORDINATOR
Last updated: August 13, 2026
There's no Hudl connection — this is a download-and-upload job
COORDINATOR doesn't connect to Hudl directly. To work with your film here, you download it from Hudl and upload it to COORDINATOR. It's a manual workflow, and this article is about making it as painless as possible.
The short version: export the specific clips you care about rather than whole games. A full game file is usually too big to be useful, and COORDINATOR works better on the twelve plays you actually want to discuss than on ninety minutes of footage.
Before you start: can you download?
Hudl controls who can download video, and it varies by account type, role, and how your organisation is set up. Coaches typically can; athletes often can't. If you don't see a download option, that's a permission set by your team or by Hudl — not something COORDINATOR can change. Ask whoever administers your team's Hudl account.
Getting video out of Hudl
Hudl's interface changes over time, so treat this as the shape of the task rather than an exact click path:
- Open the game, playlist, or highlight reel you want.
- Look for a download or export option — usually on the video itself, or in a menu on the playlist.
- Choose the smallest quality that still shows what you need. For tactical review, a lower resolution is almost always fine and downloads far faster.
- Save the file. You'll typically get an MP4.
Prefer playlists and cut-ups over full games. If you've already tagged the plays you care about in Hudl, exporting that playlist gives you a small file containing exactly the relevant footage — which is both easier to upload and more useful to talk about.
Uploading to COORDINATOR
For a clip you want to discuss now, attach it directly to a conversation using the paperclip in the message composer. The limit is 100 MB per chat attachment.
For film you want to keep, upload it to your library, where files can be up to about a gigabyte each within your plan's storage.
See Uploading files to COORDINATOR for the full limits and accepted formats. MP4, MOV, WebM, and AVI all work.
When the file is too big
This is the most common obstacle, and game film is exactly the kind of file that hits it. A 100 MB cap doesn't go far at full broadcast quality.
Options, roughly in order of how much they help:
Export a shorter selection. Ten plays instead of a whole half. This helps more than any compression setting, and it usually improves the conversation too — a focused question beats a vague one.
Export at lower quality. Hudl generally offers a quality choice on download. Tactical detail survives a resolution drop much better than you'd expect.
Trim it after downloading. Any basic video editor — including the ones built into Windows and macOS — can cut a clip and re-export it smaller.
Compress it. Re-encoding to a lower bitrate can cut file size dramatically with little visible difference at review resolution.
A note on the 100 MB limit: a large file will upload to your library happily and then refuse to attach to a chat, because the chat limit is separate and lower. If you're uploading specifically so COORDINATOR can look at it, get under 100 MB from the start.
Other video platforms
The same workflow applies to any team video platform — Catapult, Veo, PFF, Dropback, or a club's own system. None of them connect to COORDINATOR directly. Download what you need, then upload it here.
The two things that matter are the same everywhere: export clips rather than full sessions, and check what your account is allowed to download before planning around it.
If your platform exports data as well as video — tagging, stats, event lists — that's often more useful than the footage. A CSV of tagged events is small, uploads instantly, and COORDINATOR can analyse it directly. See Bringing content in from other apps.
What COORDINATOR can do with video
It can look at what you upload and discuss it with you. Be specific about what you want — a timestamp and a question works far better than "what do you think?".
For anything analytical, pairing the clip with your own notes or exported data gives much better results than the video alone.
Common issues
There's no download option in Hudl
Your account doesn't have download permission. That's set by your organisation or by Hudl — ask your team's Hudl administrator.
The download is enormous
Choose a lower quality on export, and export a playlist rather than a whole game. See When the file is too big.
The upload keeps failing
Video files are big and uploads are sensitive to connection drops. Use a stable connection, and check the file is under the limit for where you're putting it.
It uploaded to my library but won't attach to a chat
The library allows much larger files than a chat attachment does. Make a smaller version — trim it or re-export at lower quality.
The file won't upload at all
Check the format. MP4, MOV, WebM, and AVI are supported; more unusual container formats may not be. Converting to MP4 solves nearly every case.
Contact support
Email [email protected] from the address on your COORDINATOR account, and include the file's format and size, and what you were trying to do.
We can't help with Hudl accounts, permissions, or downloads — those go to Hudl's own support.
